I’ve been managing businesses for 25 years. After starting in journalism, I switched to sales and management because there seemed to be more opportunities for advancement. I sold newspaper advertising for a few years and was eventually promoted to Advertising Manager at the Concord Monitor in Concord, NH, a family-owned newspaper. In the mid-90’s we moved back to the Midwest and I ran the advertising departments for the Winona Daily News and St. Cloud Times in Minnesota. Both are owned by large corporations, Lee Enterprises and Gannett, the largest newspaper company in the nation. I earned an MBA by attending night school at St. Cloud State University while continuing to work my full time job and care for my family.
We moved to Noblesville in 2005 to publish the Noblesville Daily Times, owned at the time by the Schurz Corporation, a family business based in South Bend. The Times was a casualty of the Great Recession and when Schurz decided to close it I opened my own business which I’ve been running for more than ten years, the Hamilton County Media Group, which publishes the Hamilton County Business Magazine and the Welcome to Hamilton County Community Guide.
I offer this thumbnail sketch of my career to show the breadth of management experience I bring to the table, which I would put to good use as your mayor. I have run departments in corporations large and small and run my own business for a decade. I’ve been around the block a time or two and have more real world business and managerial experience than all of my competitors.
